I’ve mainly stuck to beauty posts on my blog so far, but I really wanted to share one of my other interests – going to watch bands that I love play live. For the bank holiday weekend, the boyfriend and I set off to Leeds on Saturday for Slam Dunk Festival – an all-day celebration of genres such as pop punk, rock, and metalcore spread out across numerous stages both outside and inside with beer in plastic cups, hog roast vans, and scattered portaloos.
We stayed at The Queens Hotel in City Square (that cost us the same amount as booking a Travelodge room would have done) and couldn’t have asked for a better location – right near the train station and just under a ten minute walk from the festival that’s based in the city centre. From watching Astroid Boys in an underground car park (kudos to whoever came up with that, such a cool experience) to enjoying some of my favourites like The Story So Far and Set Your Goals, it was a fab day. There were some disappointments – the main stage sound seemed off, including for one of my all-time loves New Found Glory, and technical issues on the same stage kept Yellowcard from playing their album Ocean Avenue in full, which was so unbelievably frustrating. But I couldn’t let those things spoil the whole day. After busting some serious moves to Shikari Sound System back in the underground car park, we headed for some pizza and chicken in the nearest takeaway we could find.
Of course I did some shopping as well on the Sunday.. including Charlotte Tilbury’s Lip Cheat in Pillow Talk, some lip oils from Kiko, Vans Old Skools, and the Gilded Honey highlighter from Laura Geller before heading back home. So here’s my Slam Dunk North weekend captured in photos – can’t wait to see next year’s lineup.
