A Few Bits from MAC + First Impressions

A Few Bits from MAC + First Impressions

I picked up a few bits from MAC not even that recently, but I wanted to give them a lil mention ’cause I’ve only just started wearing makeup again regularly in the last week or so (skin issues, moving house, massive case of CBA, etc etc). So I still feel like I can offer some first impressions, as I’ve only worn them a handful of times.

I’d been eyeing up their lippie in the Mocha shade and ended up ordering a couple more bits to take advantage of their free shipping. I find MAC counters hectic and stressful so although it’s nice to swatch and try things first, I’d rather order online most of the time. Some semi-successful shopping coming right at ya..

Lipstick in ‘Mocha’ (Satin Finish)

When I’ve actually bothered to slap some makeup on my face, this lippie has been in rotation with Charlotte Tilbury’s Pillow Talk and the ABH lip gloss in Tara. I like the satin finish as complete matte finishes often feel uncomfortable for me, even if they aren’t ridiculously drying. The satin gives me the less glossy look when I fancy it while feeling comfortable enough for me to wear, and Mocha is a beautiful browny-pink-red colour that I’m really into. It hangs around for a while, too.

Lip Pencil in ‘Brick’

I felt a sudden desire for brick-red products and had to pick this up when I saw the description. But this is the problem with buying makeup online. I think this could be so much more, erm, brickier? (wow) For me, this is a deeper cherry red. Lovely colour and I’ve worn it a couple of times, but I think there should be a bit more orangey brown in there for this to be called ‘brick’.

It takes me a while to get used to wearing lip pencils on their own as they’re so matte, but I’ve found this one okay if I properly prep beforehand and carry a balm. Fellow sahara-lips will know the struggle. Also, if anyone has a nail varnish like KL Polish ‘Brick Sidewalk’ that I can actually get hold of, I would love to know. I thought Miza ‘Moody Models’ would do the trick but it’s straight-up brown.

Kohl Pencil in ‘Teddy’

This has been on my list of things to try for ages. I like kohl pencils, brown eye looks, and bronzey vibes in general so this pencil in Teddy seemed to be the perfect addition to my makeup arsenal. But this has turned out to be one of those products that leaves me kinda underwhelmed. It’s not bad, but I don’t feel that excited to reach for it either. I initially used it in the waterline, but it wasn’t particularly intense and disappeared fairly quickly. The bronzey colour is lovely, but you could easily find something cheaper to smudge out for a grungier look.
